Wacky Bear Fun to be continued at Harry the Potter

Our meeting at Wacky Bear was a huge success! We made 17 bears for donation to the children's hospital.

Our next meeting will be December 1 at 6:00 at Harry the Potter, next to CiCi's at Dogwood. I am really looking forward to this, I have always wanted to go there! Here's a note from Miss Linda:

On December 1st, we will meet at Harry the Potter at 6:00. During this meeting we will do these activities:
1. List the primary and secondary colors. Explain what happens when you combine colors. Use the primary and secondary colors to paint with.
2. Make an art construction, using your choice of materials.
3. Use clay to sculpt a simple object.
I need these 2 activities completed for homework and brought to the December 1st meeting:
1. Make a list of common materials used to create visual art compositions. (chalk, paint, ink, paper, etc.)
2. Use the following elements to create 6 computer designs - straight lines and/or curved lines (must be in all 6), circles, dots, shapes, colors, patterns, textures, space, balance, or perspective. (Use any computer software such as paint, word, power point, etc.)

This time, instead of eating during our meeting, we will go to CiCi's afterwards. Can't wait to see you there!

Dates to remember: Christmas Float Build Day: December 4
Brandon Christmas Parade: December 5
Pinewood Derby Build Day: January 17
Pinewood Derby Race Day: January 31

There will be no pack meeting in December.

Meetings Resume Monday, August 18!

Our regular den meetings resume tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the old kitchen at St. Mark's UMC. Sadly, our den becomes a little smaller as we bid farewell to Evan Cochran, who moved to Pearl with his family, and to Tyler Kersh, who has decided to pursue other activities. We certainly will miss Evan & Tyler!!

We will be working on the Traveler Activity Pin tonight. Bring your photos, journals, internet directions, and the other things listed in Mrs. Linda's e-mails so we can complete our first Webelos award!

Looking forward to seeing you! Mrs. Gigi

What happened to Summer?

It went by SO fast. We had a wonderful time at camp - although it was hot and there were many, many bugs. It was like a little community in the back of campsite 2. This was the first time I stayed there...being right next to the Ladies' Room was nice. :)

The Swim party was lots of fun - Noah, Jeremiah, and Luke (who brought a guest) had a splashing good time and earned their swimming belt loop and pin.

The Back-to-School Back-to-Scouts Kickoff Cookout is tomorrow afternoon from 4-6 at Arrowhead Point. Bring your own beverage and some chips & dip, enjoy a burger and get caught up. Bring a friend, we would love to have some more boys in our pack!

Our first meeting will be Monday, August 18, and we will work on the Traveler Activity Badge. Linda sent out the requirements, but you can also find them at

Here's a few photos from the summer ~ Hope to see you soon!

Great Time at Trustmark Park!!

Well, the Braves didn't win...or score...but we had a blast Saturday night, anyway!! We checked in at the North Gate, got fishing poles, an armband to come in and out of the stadium, and a great-looking hat! There were about 150 scouts there with their families, and Pack 15 from Madison got to take their Color Guard out on to the field and lead the Pledge Of Allegiance! In the end, I wimped out and went home to the A/C instead of staying to camp. Kudos to you guys that stayed; I am sure we missed lots of fun!

Braves Campout Saturday May 31st!

We camp on Trustmark Field following the MS Braves vs. Birmingham Barons game Satruday night. The game starts at 7:05. Look for us outside the main gate to pick up your tickets. Only sleeping items are allowed on the field.

See you there!

We Missed You at Arrowhead Point!

We had a small but fun group at the cookout on Saturday. If you weren't there, you missed some majorly good hot dogs prepared by new Pack Committee Chairman Maurice Rieffel. The adults found out what it was like to play a game with Mr. Mike! He lined us all up and then had us pick up sticks and trash for the Optimist Club - a small price to pay for the great lodge they so readily share with us.

Our June event will be a fishing derby, tentatively scheduled June 14 at LeFleur's Bluff. Mark your calendar!

We are looking forward to summer camp. Day camp registration is due to Jessica Lowery by tomorrow (May 14) and Resident camp registration is due to Linda ASAP.

See you soon!

Cookout Saturday, May 10

Our End-of-Year (already?) cookout will be Saturday, May 10, at the Optimist Lodge on Arrowhead point from 4-7 p.m. Everyone is asked to bring a 2-liter drink and either a dessert or chips, based on rank. See www.pack576.com for details. See you there!

Tonight our Den Meeting will be at St. Mark's at 6:00. The kids will enjoy a good old-fashioned game of Twister while the adults work out the details for summer camp. Webelos resident camp is June 25-28 at Camp Hood, and we plan to get a good head start on the Webelos badge, so I hope everyone is making plans!

Welcome, Webelos!

Welcome to Webelos! Being the Leader of Den 5 has been an incredilby fun and amazingly rewarding experience. Webelos is the transition phase between Cub Scouting and Boy Scouting. We have much to do before we bridge in February of 2010! We will use this space for announcements as well as a record of our journey. We will begin tonight as the Knights of the Roundtable advance from Bears to Webelos.
